Viva.com Becomes a new European Payments Initiative Member, Expanding Instant Account-to-Account Payments Across Europe

22 July 2026

The move reinforces Viva.com's position as a pan-European critical banking infrastructure across 29 markets.

Viva.com, the first Tech Bank in Europe for businesses, has added Wero to its payments and banking platform. The integration launches across Belgium, France, Germany, with more countries coming soon, in line with Wero's broader European expansion roadmap.

The move reinforces Viva.com's position as a pan-European critical banking infrastructure across 29 markets - connecting directly to domestic card schemes, and payment systems across Europe, unifying the fragmented payments landscape, and combining scale with local depth.

Developed by the European Payments Initiative (EPI), the Wero digital wallet enables instant account-to-account transfers in under 10 seconds. With a user base exceeding 57 million across Europe to date, Wero is establishing itself as a bank-native alternative to traditional payment methods, including card schemes.

Stefan Waterdrinker, Senior VP Strategy of Viva.com, said:

“Direct connectivity to local schemes and payment systems has always been central to Viva.com’s European strategy. By bringing payments, banking and financing together on a single platform, we enable businesses to operate across Europe through one integration, while meeting the local requirements of each market. Wero further strengthens this proposition by adding this important emerging European account-to-account payment method to our platform.”

Wero joins more than 40 payment methods available through Viva.com's omnichannel payment acceptance platform, giving merchants a more complete checkout across their markets. Its addition further strengthens Viva.com’s role as pan-European critical banking infrastructure for payments and banking services, connecting businesses directly to the payment methods that matter most in each market. Viva.com also plans to support Wero's expansion into NFC-based in-store acceptance as that capability rolls out.

Martina Weimert, CEO of EPI, emphasized:

“We welcome Viva.com as an EPI member, which will help to speed up the deployment of Wero in ecommerce and later on in physical shops across Europe. Viva.com will enable its wide pool of merchants to activate Wero as a payment method for their final customers, which brings us one step closer towards our ambition to deliver a payment ecosystem made for Europeans, by Europeans.”
